Affordable Rentals and Public Housing

The Center for Housing Education, a branch of the Danville Redevelopment and Housing Authority, is a US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved Housing Counseling Agency. The Center connects with the community to provide programs that promote education and wealth preservation. Our goal is to create educational opportunities that prepare individuals for new challenges as they transition along the affordable housing spectrum, all while instilling the values of property maintenance for community stability and sustainability.

Experiencing a Housing Crisis?

Facing eviction? At risk of being homeless? Children at risk of being homeless?

Please contact the West Piedmont Better Housing Coalition to complete a housing referral form.

The City of Danville has partnered with the area's local Continuum of Care to provide rental assistance using HOME-ARP(American Rescue Plan) funds.

Priority will be given to those in imminent danger of becoming homeless and to families with children. 

  • Families receiving HUD Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8) are not eligible for assistance.
  • Court-ordered eviction and landlord referral required
  • Referrals do not guarantee assistance, funds will be limited.

Virginia Legal Aid Society (VLAS) is a nonprofit law firm established in 1977 to provide free civil legal services to eligible low-income residents in 20 counties and six cities in Central, Southside, and Western Tidewater Virginia. VLAS serves these communities by providing free information, advice, and representation in such areas as housing, healthcare, income and benefits, family issues, consumer, and education.

Have concerns with Lead in your home?

Lead Safe Danville is a HUD-funded program implemented by the City of Danville. The program is designed to reduce lead poisoning in children by stabilizing lead-based paint hazards found in rental and single-family homes built in the City of Danville prior to 1978.

Eligible applicants receive comprehensive services to identify and stabilize deteriorating lead-based paint hazards in their home and/or rental units.
