Certificate of Fictitious / Assumed Name

Filing of Certificate


A Certificate of Fictitious or Assumed Name is required to be filed by all businesses operating within the City of Danville.
Effective January 1, 2020, the Clerk’s Office of the State Corporation Commission is the central filing office in Virginia for all certificates of assumed or fictitious name.  A certificate must be prepared on a form prescribed by the Commission and is available on the Clerk’s Office tab of the SCC website via  http://www.scc.virginia.gov/index.aspx.

Effective January 1, 2020, the Clerk of Circuit Court  may only record a release of assumed or fictitious name. The fee for filing a Release of the Certificate of Assumed or Fictitious Name is $10.
