Danville Utilities has restored power to customers in the Whitmell area of Pittsylvania County.
About 1,550 customers lost power at 2:36 p.m. due to a feeder lockout at the Whitmell substation. The area affected was Route 41 between F.C. Beverly Road and Harper Road and northeast to Route 360.
A feeder lockout is an automatic or unplanned interruption of electrical service at a feeder substation that requires manual correction. Feeder lockout can result from equipment failure, downed power lines or line faults on the transmission system that supplies the substation.
Crews patrolled the area and discovered a tree had fallen across a main line close to the substation. Power was restored at 3:33 p.m.
