Beginning Monday, April 22, weather and conditions permitting, the northbound diagonal approach to the Martin Luther King Bridge in front of Lou’s Antiques will be closed to traffic. This permanent street closure is necessary to construct the River District Gateway Plaza.
Northbound traffic will be directed to make a left turn from Craghead Street onto Patton Street in order to cross the Martin Luther King Bridge. The center median on Craghead Street between Main and Patton Street has been shifted to allow two lanes for traffic to turn left toward the bridge.
Message boards are being used to alert motorists about the new traffic pattern.
Drivers from the south are encouraged to use Patton Street to cross the Dan River and avoid delays on Craghead Street.
