The Danville Fire Dept. Technical Rescue Team is assisting the Danville Electric Dept. with an entry into an underground electric vault on N. Union Street. The DFD responded at 3:16 pm to a call of smoke coming from a grate near the location of the old Downtowner. Engine 1 arrived and located a fire in the underground electric vault. The street was closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The City Electric Department arrived and opened up the grates leading to the vault. The fire self-extinguished.
The Electric Dept is working to evaluate and repair the problem. The DFD Technical Rescue Team is assisting while entry is made below ground.
Power is currently off on North Union St. An update will be sent once the situation has been controlled.
