Danville, VA Fire Department Media Releases

[ARCHIVED] Mobile home fire on Westover Drive.

At 17:07 today The Danville Fire Department responded to 4374 Westover Drive, Danville to a reported structure fire. The call was answered by seven fire department units, including Engine 6, Engine 2, Ladder 1, Engine3, Battalion 1, Chief 3 and HazMat 2. Engine 6 found smoke coming from structure upon their arrival and used a 1-3/4” hose to extinguish the fire. They were supported by Engines two and three as well as Ladder one for fire suppression activities. Search crews found no people in the structure but did recover two cats, one of which perished in the fire and the other was resuscitated by firefighters on-scene. The local animal shelter came to the scene and retrieved the injured animal. The fire department was aided by the Police department who controlled traffic on Westover drive and the Danville Life Saving Crew stood by to aid the fire department in case of injury. The fire department was on the scene for approximately one and one half hours. The fire was deemed unintentional and started in the kitchen. No one was home when the fire occurred. The damage to the structure was heavy. The American Red Cross is involved with the family’s recovery.
