Due to the threat of inclement weather in the forecast for early Saturday, the Riverview Rotary Christmas Parade will begin at 7 p.m. instead of 6 p.m.
“We have monitored several weather sources and notice the likelihood of rain greatly diminishes in the evening hours,” said Sam Ferguson, Riverview Rotary Parade chair. “All indicators state the chance of rain falls to 10 percent by 7 p.m., and even falls to 0 percent at 8 p.m.
"The parade committee and Rotary board believe this is our best option and hope citizens don’t let the dreariness of the afternoon keep them away from Danville’s Christmas tradition.”
The change in time will not affect the route, performance areas or other aspects of the parade.
The theme for the parade is “Christmas Movies.” More than 150 entries are expected. This year’s grand marshal is Sue Davis, former Danville Public Schools Superintendent.
The parade will begin at the intersection of Broad and Main Street, travel down Main Street, turn right on Craghead Street and end at Wilson Street.
Two performance areas will mark the route this year, one of which will be in front of First Presbyterian Church on Main Street. The additional performance area will be located in front of Golden Leaf Bistro on Craghead Street.
Parking is available at Newton’s Landing off of Bridge Street.
