The Danville Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers will receive its charter on Thursday, Feb. 20, during an organizational meeting at the Regional Center for Advanced Technology and Training on Slayton Avenue.

The meeting will begin at 4 p.m.

The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) is a nonprofit professional society of more than 16,000 members in 90 countries. Its mission is to promote the scientific and educational interests of those engaged in the energy industry and to foster action for sustainable development.

Eric Walker, key accounts manager for Danville Utilities, said membership is open to anyone from the commercial, industrial, institutional, governmental, energy services and utilities sectors. The Danville chapter will promote the principles and practices of energy efficiency and energy conservation.

For more information, contact Walker at walkeer@ci.danville.va.us or (434) 857-3312.

A steering committee has been meeting monthly to organize a local chapter. Committee members included representatives from Goodyear Tire & Rubber, Intertape Polymer Group, Blue Ridge Fiberboard, Essel Propack and Danville Utilities.

Cecil Jones, vice president of AEE Region II, will make the charter presentation Thursday.

Danville Utilities provides natural gas, water, wastewater and telecommunications services in Danville and distributes electricity to approximately 42,000 customer locations in a 500-square-mile service territory covering Danville, the southern third of Pittsylvania County, and small portions of Henry and Halifax counties.
