[ARCHIVED] Structure fire damages home on Danville's northside

The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 15:47 pm this afternoon. Units arrived on scene within three and a half minutes of dispatch to find a two story structure with heavy smoke showing from the building. A lone occupant who was located outside upon our arrival advised that there was someone else still inside the structure. Crews deployed a hose line into the structure and began a search of the structure. While the search was conducted a second crew attacked and extinguished the fire. It was later determined that the reported victim was not at home at the time of the fire. The house sustained moderate damage and is uninhabitable as a result of the fire. The Red Cross was notified and is assisting the occupants with shelter. The Fire Marshall's office investigated and the cause was determined to be accidental, and caused by misuse of smoking materials. Three engines, one ladder truck, a Battalion Chief and a Safety officer were on scene for approximately an hour and a half.
