The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 646 Cardinal Place on Tuesday December 16, 2014 at 957am. Upon arrival at 1002 am, units found a two story residential apartment structure with light smoke showing from the second floor of Apartment # 6. Engine 3's crew (from Industrial Ave) pulled an attack line and made entry into the structure finding a fire in the kitchen. Ladder 1's (from Lynn St) ventilated the building and searched for victims. Engine 4's crew (from West Main St) established a water supply and pulled a back up attack line and did salvage and overhaul. Engine 6's crew (from Westover Dr.) established a Rapid Intervention Team. Fire was quickly knocked down at 1009 am. Search crews located an animal inside the kitchen who was deceased. The Fire Marshal's Office investigated the fire and determined the cause of the fire was unattended cooking. Moderate fire damage to the structure was sustained as well as heat and smoke damage. Three engines, One ladder, One safety officer, two chief officers and two fire marshals responded for a total of 17 personnel on scene. Personnel remained on scene for 1 hour and 45 minutes. The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Police Department and Danville Electric and Gas Departments assisted on scene. The American Red Cross was notified to assist the occupant. No injuries were reported.
