[ARCHIVED] Mattress Fire on Wood Avenue

The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 165 Wood Avenue this morning at 12:40 AM. Units arrived on scene at 12:46 AM to find a small one-story house with nothing showing. The fire was extinguished by an occupant of the residence prior to the fire departments arrival. All occupants were out of the house on our arrival. The residence was checked and a mattress was found still smoking. The mattress was removed from the house along with an electric blanket and a pillow. Ventilation was set up and smoke was removed from the house. Two of the occupants were treated on scene for smoke inhalation and transported by Danville Life Saving Crew to the Danville Regional Medical Center for further treatment. Damage to the house was minor.

The Danville Fire Department responded with three engines, one ladder truck, and two support vehicles. A total of 17 personnel responded and were on scene for approximately 30 minutes.

An investigation was done and the cause of the fire was determined to be a shorted out electric blanket.
