Danville’s annual Fourth of July Celebration will feature the Patriot’s Challenge races, a pie baking contest, free entertainment, arts and crafts, amusement rides, food concessions and fireworks.
For early risers on Saturday, the Danville Regional Medical Center Patriot’s Challenge 5K/10K race and Kids’ Fun Run will take place at 8 a.m. at Anglers Park. An ice cream social will follow the race. The event is sponsored by Danville Regional Medical Center, Danville Parks and Recreation, Complexions Dermatology and Danville Running and Fitness Club.
Activities then switch to the Crossing at the Dan on Craghead Street, beginning with the Fourth Annual Pie Baking Contest. The contest, which is sponsored by Golden Leaf Bistro, will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pepsi Building. Rules and registration forms are available at www.playdanvilleva.com and at the Danville Welcome Center. The grand prize winner will receive $500 cash.
The gates to the Carrington Pavilion will open at 6 p.m. and will feature free entertainment, arts and crafts and Captain Jim's Magical Illusion Show for the kids. Food concessions and amusement rides will be available. The Danville Symphony Orchestra will perform. Admission is free. The event is sponsored by URW Community Federal Credit Union, J&J Equipment Rentals and Danville Parks and Recreation.
The celebration ends with the annual fireworks display at dusk.
