[ARCHIVED] Fire at Purdum Woods Complex

The Danville Fire Department responded to a fire in the laundry located at the Purdum Woods Apartment complex on Richmond Blvd. this afternoon at 3:57 pm. The first arriving apparatus found heavy smoke in the laundry room. Firefighters entered the building and quickly extinguished the fire. The fire was confined to an over/under dryer unit. Smoke spread throughout the building, which also included the complex office. The dryer was removed from the building. The remaining dryers are still in service and other than the smoke, there was no damage to the building.
The cause of the incident was the dryer unit. There were no injuries and no apartments were affected. 3 engines, 1 ladder, and 2 support vehicles responded to the incident. 15 personnel were on scene for one hour. Maintenance personnel from Purdum Woods were on scene and took control of the building.
