City Council will meet Tuesday, April 5, in a business session at 7 p.m., followed by a work session. Both sessions are open to the public.
The business session will be held in the Council Chambers on the fourth floor of the Municipal Building, which is located at 427 Patton St.
The work session will be held on the same floor, but across the hall in the Council Conference Room. In work sessions, Council reviews non-routine matters that will be voted upon in future business meetings.
During next week’s business session, City Council has votes scheduled on five matters:
• a request to vacate a public alley off Pine Street in the Five Forks commercial corner. If approved, the Danville Redevelopment & Housing Authority plans to consolidate the alley with their parcels located on Pine Street, Jefferson Avenue and Jefferson Street.• a request for a special use permit on behalf of Duke Energy to install a stand-alone restroom facility at Abreu-Grogan Park. The facility is one of the upgrades that Duke Energy has planned at the park. The project also includes installation of a floating boat dock and a fishing platform.• a request for a special use permit to allow the operation of an indoor shooting facility at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Camelot Court. The applicant, Phil Strader, is proposing to construct an advanced indoor shooting range, sporting goods retail establishment, and training facility.• an amendment to zoning regulations to create a definition for indoor shooting facilities.• a request by North Main Baptist Church for a special use permit to operate a community garden on the northeast corner of North Main Street and Franklin Turnpike.
Public hearings will precede the vote on each matter.
For the work session, City Council will review monthly financial statements and hear a presentation of the master plan for upgrading the City Auditorium on Floyd Street.
River City TV, the city’s government access channel, will air the business session. Watch it live on cable (Comcast channel 10 and Gamewood channel 122) or streaming at RiverCityTV.org or the city's YouTube channel – DanvilleVaGov.
River City TV does not air work sessions, but they are open to the public.
