Food lovers can learn new recipes as Chef at the Market returns to the Community Market. Sports fans will enjoy high school, college volleyball and college football. At Averett University, in addition to the football game, kids can enjoy a free bounce house, photos with mascots, AU tattoos by cheerleaders and an invitation onto the field at halftime for Cougar Rumble. There will be free admission for ages 17 & under.

After a dominating performance last week against Martinsville, the GW Eagles (3-1) are home for the second consecutive week. This week’s opponent is Patrick County, which is 1-4 following last week’s 49-0 loss to Magna Vista. Patrick County’s lone victory is a 13-6 win over North Stokes two weeks ago. The weather forecast calls for mostly clear skies and cooler temperatures in the mid-60s at kickoff.
MUSICAL THEATRE CABARET

Where: Frith Fine Arts Center at Averett University, 100 Mountain View Ave.

CHEF AT THE MARKET
When: 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday
Where: Community Market, 629 Craghead St.
The Chef at the Market series resumes with local chef Dustin Haberer, owner of Nana Karen’s Cruisin Kitchen, preparing on site recipes made from fresh foods found at the Farmers' Market. The event is free and open to the public. The Farmers' Market is open every Saturday through October from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
DIRTY DAN DASH
When: 1 p.m. Saturday
Where: Community Market, 629 Craghead St.
Registration is closed to run in this race, but come out and watch as runners tackle mammoth obstacles and messy muddy pits through a course that features paved and trail running. The Dirty Dan Dash, which is celebrating its sixth year, begins at the Community Market.
DIGITAL DOME SHOWS
When: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday
Where: Danville Science Center, 677 Craghead St
The Science Center offers shows in the Digital Dome Theater on Saturdays. The lineup begins at 11 a.m. with National Parks Adventure, which is a journey through majestic national parks alongside modern explorers. The lineup continues in the afternoon with Accidental Astronauts, a second showing of National Parks Adventure, and Zulu Patrol. While there, enjoy exhibits such as “From Here to There.” In this exhibit, lift, launch and levitate your way through hands-on exhibits to explore how things move by land, sea and air.
DANVILLE MUSEUM MEETS MARGARITAVILLE
When: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday
Where: Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History, 975 Main St.
Get out your flip-flops and shake some salt! Join the museum for the best summer party in town while supporting the museum. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the event. Ticket includes burger, two sides, dessert, drink and one bar ticket for margarita, wine or beer. Ma Possum’s is the event caterer. The event will feature DJ Ben Wright, line dancing, and a silent auction. For more information, call the museum at 793-5644.
BE PART OF THE AVERETT TEAMS
When: 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday
Where: Averett North Campus, 707 Mount Cross Road, Danville, VA
The women’s volleyball and football teams will be in action at home. At 11 a.m., the women's volleyball team hosts Meredith College in a conference matchup, and then at 3 p.m. take the court against Salem College in another conference matchup.
At 5 p.m., the football team (2-2, 2-0 USA South) is home for the second consecutive week. Last weekend, junior running back Sean Bowman's career performance helped propel Averett University football to a 35-6 conference victory over Methodist. This week, the Cougars will look to carry the momentum against LaGrange College (2-2, 1-0).
