On November 12, 2009 at approximately 2:30 am Danville Police responded to the 1300 block of Washington Street for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival they found James Willie Adams Jr., age 35, lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
A grand jury convened last week and indicted 19-year-old Cyntez Jamar Fitzgerald for capital murder, robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (2 counts) in relation to this incident. He was 18 at the time. Fitzgerald is currently being held in the Polk Correctional Institution in Butner, NC for a shooting that occurred in Reidsville, NC in March of 2010. Extradition to return Fitzgerald to Virginia to stand trial on these charges has begun.
