City Council will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 21, in a business session and two work sessions. All three sessions are open to the public.

Council’s meeting will begin with a special work session at 5:30 p.m. In this session, City Council will be presented with a study to consider consolidation of the Adult Detention Center and the City Jail under the Sheriff’s Office.

The regular business session will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a second work session.

The business session will be held in the Council Chambers on the fourth floor of the Municipal Building, which is located at 427 Patton St.

The work sessions will be held on the same floor, but across the hall in the Council Conference Room. In work sessions, Council reviews non-routine matters that will be voted upon in future business meetings.

During the business session, City Council is scheduled to vote on whether to establish a commercial property assessed clean energy (C-PACE) program. C-PACE is a financing tool, established by local governments, that empowers commercial property owners to finance energy efficiency, water conservation, and renewable energy projects with no upfront costs.

Property owners receive long-term, 100 percent financing from qualified capital providers, and repay that loan through a special real estate assessment. If approved, this program would represent an additional economic development tool without incurring additional costs or tax burden to the City.

During the second work session, the City Council will receive financial and program updates as well as discuss a Riverside Drive corridor improvement study and funding for two Riverwalk Trail extensions.

Also in the second work session, City Council will hold a closed meeting as allowed by state law to discuss a prospective business or industry related to economic development and to discuss the acquisition of real property or disposition of publicly held real property.
