[ARCHIVED] 07-03-12 Robbery Suspect Arrested

Michael Edward Wyatt, the suspect in the armed robbery yesterday evening at the PAK Supermarket is in custody following a vehicle pursuit this afternoon.

Shortly after 3:00 pm today Deputies with the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office developed information that Michael Wyatt was staying at the Budget Inn Motel on Piney Forest Road in Danville. They were aware of the outstanding warrants on Wyatt, who is also a suspect in incidents being investigated by their office.

Wyatt got into a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina and exited the motel parking lot. Deputies attempted to stop Wyatt, but he disregarded their signal and fled south on Piney Forest Road. They notified Danville dispatchers of the pursuit, and Danville Police Officers responded to assist.

The pursuit continued in and around Piney Forest Road and Central Boulevard. At one point Wyatt drove his vehicle up the wrong side of the exit ramp going from Memorial Drive westbound to Central Boulevard northbound. Wyatt continued into the parking lot of Infinity Global on Memorial Drive and at one point struck a Pittsylvania County Sheriff's vehicle. Wyatt eventually bailed out of his car, which was moving but was quickly apprehended.

His vehicle continued to roll towards one of the parking lot entrances. Bobby Walker, a five-year employee of the City of Danville Utilities Department was operating a city owned truck nearby and saw that Wyatt's car was about to enter traffic on Memorial Drive. Walker pulled his truck into the path of the car to prevent that from happening and was struck in the process. He did not receive any injuries as a result.

Michael Wyatt was taken into custody and treated for injuries that he received when he exited the moving car. He was transported to Danville Regional Medical Center and is currently under police guard.

He will be served with the warrants obtained in the robbery yesterday evening once he is released from the hospital. Additional charges are pending as a result of the vehicle pursuit.
