Basic Requirements of the Danville Police Department

    1. Be a United States citizen
    2. At least 20 years of age
    3. Undergo a comprehensive background investigation
    4. Have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
    5. Possess a valid operators license
    6. Undergo a physical examination
    7. No felony convictions
    8. Negative result on drug screen
    9. Past drug use and misdemeanor convictions will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

  • Starting pay without a college degree

Including School Pay

  • Starting pay with 50% of college degree completed    $32,479.00 plus (5% Increase) =

  • Starting pay with 100% of college degree completed   $32,479.00 plus (10% Increase) = 
    $35,726.88

Due to the work schedule of the Police Department, there are times when Police Officers are scheduled to work on holidays.
When work is preformed on a designated holiday, the employee shall be entitled to equivalent time off with pay.

Sick Leave (Patrol Division)

           9.6 hours per month

Basic Training    

  1. 21 weeks at the Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice Training Academy located in Martinsville Va.
  2. 9 weeks of field training in the Danville Police Department
