SOUTHSIDE SKYFEST TO BE RESCHEDULED FOR 2010
The organizers of the Southside SkyFest have elected to tentatively reschedule the next air and car show for October 9-10, 2010. The Southside SkyFest has attracted approximately 3000 to 4000 spectators annually to the Danville Regional Airport since 1996. The air and car show has been a crowd pleaser for several years due to its wide variety of performers, displays and exhibits. This decision to move the show date was attributed to several factors including poor weather conditions that impacted the Southside SkyFest over the past two summers and the current economic environment that has caused state budget cutbacks.
Other issues influencing the planning of the 2010 show include a major construction project that will significantly impact the Danville Regional Airport's primary runway. This construction project is anticipated to begin during the late summer or early fall of 2010. Marc Adelman, Chairman of Danville Air Show, Inc., stated, "The planning group is very disappointed that we are unable to hold the event this year; however, Board members are very excited and committed to planning the 2010 show as conditions permit. Danville Air Show, Inc. would like to thank all sponsors that have made the air and car show possible. It is our hope to have a fantastic event planned for 2010 that is consistent with the tradition of Southside SkyFest."
