The City of Danville requires that certain permits be obtained before specific work commences on public or private property. These permits apply to commercial and residential work. For more information on permits, contact Brian Dunevant at (434) 799-5019. View a list of all

Land Disturbance Permit
For anything except new single-family home construction, this
permit is required for land disturbance areas of 5,000 square feet or greater. The permit fee is $75 for the first acre plus $50 for each additional acre. The minimum permit fee is $75. A surety is required. The surety can be cash, check, or
bond.
Agreement in Lieu of Plan
This
agreement is required for single-family home construction. The permit fee is $50. A surety is required. The surety can be cash, check, or
bond.
Virginia Stormwater Management Program (VSMP) General Permit for Construction Activities
This permit is for land disturbances one acre or greater, or part of a common plan, as defined by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. A copy of the VSMP Registration Statement and a copy of the VSMP Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan must be provided to this office. This permit is issued by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. More information about this permit can be obtained from the

Virginia Water Protection Permit Program (VMP)
This permit is for any activity that affects the quality and quantity of surface waters. A list of common regulated activites can found in the
Guide for Residential Property Owners. This permit is issued by the Department of Environmental Quality. More information about this permit can be obtained from the
Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.
Curb Cut Permit
This permit is required if a new driveway entrance is to be installed or if an existing entrance is to be modified along streets with a curb and gutter. The permit fee is $15 per entrance. View the

Storm Drainage Permit
This permit is required if any work pertaining to drainage is to be done including installation or modification of existing conveyance channels, pipes, driveway pipes, manholes, inlets, etc. This includes work that is to be done on private property. The permit fee varies depending on the work being done.
Excavation on City Property Permit
This permit is required if work is proposed to be done within or if work extends into the City's right of way. An
Excavation Permit Application is required and may be mailed, faxed, or emailed to
Ronnie Carson or
Brian Dunevant. The permit fee varies on the work being done. A surety and proof of insurance are required. View the
Excavation Permit Bond. The
Virginia Work Area Protection Manual must be referenced and applied to all work with the City's rights-of-way.
Flagger certification is required by the Virginia Work Area Protection Manual.
