[ARCHIVED] 05-22-2020 Drug arrests

Wallace and Whitehead

Danville Police arrested two men on drug-related charges after they ran from police this afternoon.

Danville Police attempted to stop a black Dodge Charger on Franklin Turnpike near the city limits at 3:45 p.m. The Charger did not stop and turned onto Orphanage Road at a high rate of speed into Pittsylvania County. A short time later, another officer located the car wrecked and abandoned at the intersection of Orphanage Road and Walnut Creek Road in Pittsylvania County.

Citizens pointed out to officers the last known direction the occupants fled, a perimeter was set up, and Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office led a full-scale search. A watchful citizen saw two suspicious persons at about 7:45 p.m. and notified law enforcement. Police identified them as occupants of the Charger and took them into custody without further incident.

Police charged Stevie Jeffery Wallace, 30, of Danville and Dyontiez Corwin Whitehead, 25, also from Danville with possession with intent to distribute marijuana. They are being held in the Danville City Jail, the investigation is ongoing, and further charges are expected.

This release is meant to address some misinformation on social media regarding these individuals shooting at police. That is not true, not shots were fired and no one was injured in the encounter or the traffic crash.

Danville Police would like to thank the watchful citizens who contacted police and Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the suspect’s apprehension.
